Eighteen sages including Surya, Pitamah, Vyasa, Vashishtha, Atri, Parasara, Kashyapa, Narada, Garga, Marichi, Manu, Angira, Lomasha, Paulisha, Chyavana, Yavana, Bhrigu, and Saunaka are recognized as the creators of Astrology. Maitreya, disciple of Sage Parasara, attained considerable spiritual knowledge and discussed theological matters with Vidura. Among these sages, Parasara's extensive work 'Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra' is still available and highly respected. Parasara was the father of Ved Vyasa and authored 'Parasara Smriti', 'Parasara Samhita', and 'Parasara Hora Shastra'. Narada, son of Brahma, received Vedic and astrological knowledge from Brahma and taught Sage Saunaka, who became well-versed in the Vedas. Parasara was a disciple of Saunaka.
