Understanding Mallika Yogas in Vedic Astrology

Understanding Mallika Yogas

Mallika Yogas are formed when a group of planets occupy continuous signs starting from the Lagna (ascendant). For example, Lagna Mallika Yoga occurs if seven planets are placed in consecutive signs from the Lagna. These yogas are discussed in classical texts such as:

  • Sri Ramanujacharya's Bhavartha Ratnakara
  • Vaidyanatha's Jataka Parijatha
  • Venkatesa Daivajna's Sathamanjari Raja Yoga

Bhavartha Ratnakara also includes nodes in these yogas, but their practical application is limited because nodes mutually occupy the 7th house, making involvement of six or fewer houses impossible; only 7, 8, and 9 house combinations are feasible.

Specific Yogas and Their Effects

Specific yogas and their effects include:

  • Veena Yoga: The native will be very learned, wealthy, luxurious, chief among his people, wise, expert, enthusiastic, and inclined towards righteousness.
  • Adama Yoga: The native will be happy, kind, devoted to public welfare or their work, a noted scholar, wise, rich, and valiant in endeavors.
  • Pasa Yoga: The native will have many expenses, be an expert, beloved by all, intellectually great, enthusiastic, favored in leadership circles, and engaged in household activities.
  • Kedara Yoga: The native will help relatives, earn through agriculture, be dutiful, sometimes relaxed, and honored.
  • Sula Yoga: The native will be intelligent, have many means of livelihood, face frequent health challenges, earn through transactions, have two partners but limited descendants.
  • Yuga Yoga: The native will experience physical challenges, may speak harshly, have debts to manage, and face limited family connections.
  • Gola Yoga: The native will have life opportunities affected by physical hurdles, may face financial uncertainties, mobility issues, and experience solitude.

Note: The results mentioned do not apply when these yogas involve the 10th, 11th, 1st, and 9th houses.

Additionally, if all planets from Sun to Saturn are angular to the Lagna, Mangala Yoga is formed. If they are specifically confined to the 10th house, Madhya Yoga is produced.
